Hi, I need some advice, I want to buy a new monitor, Im looking at two at the moment:

http://www.dabs.com/products/samsung-series-4-s24c450bw-24---led-1920x1200--vga-dvi-height-adjust-dvi-d--vga---matte-black-8N31.html?refs=376750000&src=3

It has a nice resolution and cool stand.

Next:
http://www.dabs.com/products/asus-mx239h-23--led-ips-monitor---1920x1080-vga-hdmi-8LKC.html?refs=367040000&src=2

This one has a smaller res but a better look.

Ultimately im going to doing a lot of gaming on it, and some other media. What would be better? Any other suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.

Is that better than the two I picked, if so why? Thanks.

I have a 7970 Ghz, Would it really stress it out that much? I didnt think it was much bigger of a resolution.
The Asus one does look awesome indeed, I ordered a 27" version of it but sent it back as it was too big to sit in front of :) waiting to get the money back so I can order a 24" but I just wanted to make sure Im ordering the right monitor for gaming.

In that case, you've no need to worry, a 7970 would handle it fine :D

And it doesn't sound like it's much bigger until you do the math: 1920x120 (120 is difference between 1080 and 1200) = 230,400 more pixels to render (about 11% more than 1080p) :p

That sounds good! For me, I needed a tad more than 1080p. SO how is the panel on the samsung monitor Vs. the Asus panel? As the samsung is a TN panel and the Asus is an IPS panel, I found the Asus was very vibrant and colourful but had a lot of light bleed.
Ive had zero experiance with any samsung monitors.

I was thinking similar. But the 1080p res isnt going be too small on a 23" Asus no? When I had the 27" version, everything was way too big in game, hud icons too big and charcter or weapon covering half the screen. Cheers for your help

It won't be too small from where you're sitting.

You have to remember that the bigger the screen is, the more "stretched" the image is, and so the more graphical fidelity is lost from a certain distance. If you sit 3 feet away from a 50" screen, you'll be able to see all the pixels - no good. In contrast, if you sit 3 feet away from a 23" screen, it'll be just the right balance between image size and fidelity.

How far do you sit from your screen?

Im not convinced on that one mate, all the tech specs make it seem worse than the other two, allthough its got good reviews, I think its been around longer. Looking for the best of all worlds really, at a tough price point

Well, all I can say is its a great monitor that has an amazing picture out of the box. No need to tweak the gamma or anything to get the color on target, just set bright/contrast and then sharpness. I'm actually wanting to get another one, have to ask Dell for a discount on it and the dual monitor stand ;)

Fair enough that you have one, glad you like it. Im looking for a slightly lower response time and a more vibrant panel I think, also the frame doesnt look very good at all.
I also try to stay away from dell.

So im all but decided on the Asus MX239H 23" LED IPS Monitor - 1920x1080 VGA HDMI.
You think its a done deal? I dont really want to regret the chance of trying something else out. Although im quite stretched for money so thats my limit, Its a tough price bracket really.
