Hi there, lately i have been experiencing some frame rate issues on games the I like to play. I was thinking about upgrading to a better Graphics Card and I already have one in mind but I am not sure if my computer could handle it? Anyway, here are my computer Specs:

Computer:
H8-1010
Intel i5 2390T CPU @ 2.70GHz (4CPUs), ~2.7Ghz
8192MB RAM
DirectX 11

GFX Card: AMD RADEON HD 6450

The Graphics Card I was planning to get was this:

ASUS Graphic Cards GTX660-DC2O-2GD5

Hi Sburke96,

Well...... the 2390T although it's an i5 it is only a dual core CPU that turbos to 3.5, so I suspect you may get a bit of a bottleneck in some games that are CPU heavy, meaning your CPU will hold back your Gfx card.

What type of games do you plan on playing???

Also, if you can stretch your budget another $20/$30 the AMD 7870 is a much better card for the money, it will easily beat a 660.

Well for games I plan to play mainly MMO type of games and there is this one mmo that is getting Localized called Blade and Soul( i tried its beta) my computer couldn't handle it which is another reason i think that i should get another graphics card.

I am not looking for 60fps or more with the game, just around 30-45 fps. Also the graphics card you mentioned... by any chance would it be { This one? }
If so, do you think that would be able to run the game with about 30fps or so with the recommended reqs below?

The Games requirements:
Recommended System Requirements
CPU: Intel Quad core or AMD Phenom II X4 or better
RAM: 4G or more
Video Card: nVidia Geforce 8800GT or AMD Radeon HD 4850 or better
Hard Disk: 15GB or more
OS: Window XP, Vista or Window 7(32/64bit)
DirectX: 9.0c

Anyway, upgrade from HD 6450 to GTX 660 or even HD 7870 is a BIG jump, you will see BIG performance increase from it.
You can try OC your CPU a little bit, let's say 3.0 GHz and combine it with GTX660/HD7870, you will be satisfy with that setup. :)

Hi again Sburke96,

Yep, that's the card I was referring to. Although, a more reputable brand and one with a slightly better cooler would maybe be a better option, XFX are a good brand don't get me wrong but there are better ones. Something like the: [Sapphire Ghz Edition]

If 30-45fps is enough for you then this card will serve you well for a good while, and be MORE than enough for the game you mentioned =) It will comfortably out match a standard 660 in all games, except maybe PhysX games, but they are still fairly few and far between.

Upgrading from a 6450 to a 7870 will be such a difference, it will make you think the card is made out of fairy dust, and designed by wizards =) Seriously though, gaming will feel like a completely new experience.

The only thing is, like I said, the CPU will probably need either upgrading or overclocking. Overclocking it would be my personal choice to save cash and get the most out of it as it's not a bad CPU. You don't want to buy a lovely new card and not be able to use it's full potential. A decent but reasonably priced cooler like the Hyper 212 Evo would set you up just fine, allowing you to push the CPU more due to lower temps.
But you could just upgraded your card first, run it for a few weeks to see what you can achieve, as you may find in some of the games you play CPU dependency is low and therefore you may not need to OC or upgrade the CPU just yet.

Hope this helps, and if you need any more advice feel free to ask =)
