I was wondering why you seldom (if ever) see anyone reuse the OEM aluminum back plate when they upgrade the stock cooler...and go with an aftermarket cooler, on their discrete graphics card?
For example, my MSI HD R6950 has a nice heavy aluminum back plate and an X-brace that typically is never incorporated into a aftermarket cooling solution.
Aside of the aftermarket kit's screws being too short, etc...why don't people reuse the back plate or the X-brace?
I would think the aluminum back plate would help dissipate heat and also keep the card a lot more rigid against bending. Also the X-bracket seems like it would also aid in cooling as well..possibly even spread out the squeezing pressure a little better too.
Is it that the aftermarket companies just don't want to incorporate any of the OEM parts into their better cooling design?
I watched a video where a guy added his back plate after installing an Artic Accelero Xtreme and it just required a few after market hardware store screws. It didn't quite look as clean as a factory job...but if it helps cool and strengthen..why not?
Am I just missing something here?
