ASRock FM2A85X Extreme6 problems with USB

Hi all, I am trying to install Xubuntu onto my rig with this mobo via 2 Sandisk Cruzer 8 GB sticks (1 with the installation media, 1 to act as the HD). However, when I choose to boot from said USB stick on the boot menu, or when I place it first in the boot priority, the Power/Reset/Dr. Debug LEDs immediately shut off. The CPU and GPU fans remain running indefinitely, and the display generally hangs for a few seconds before shutting off. I have tried both USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports to no avail, and this is becoming very frustrating as ASRock claims to support USB boot. Hoping someone out there can help

Parts:
AMD A4 5300
Sapphire HD 7950 Vapor-X
Crucial Ballistix 8 GB
No HDD or CD/DVD drive

  1. Researched around all day, it appears that no one else has had this issue. Should I raise the white flag and RMA?
