Hello all.

I would like to know how to go about learning how to repair the many facet parts of a motherboard. I would like to learn how to repair other types of electronic PCBs and not just motherboards. So would anyone know how I could learn to repair just about anypart (active, passive and chips) of a motherboard ? What kind of tools (i.e retooling station or soldering gun) or equipment (i.e. magnifying glass, oscilloscope) would be needed and how can I gain some practice ? Would there be any good books perhaps I could read or online websites that give tutorials and videos on how to repair just about anycomponent of a motherboard ? Like I said I am a newbie to any kind of electronic repair and have no engineering or electronic degree or background. I have started to read some online sites on how electronics work and how to identify some of the various parts.

This is all very new to me but would like to take this on as a hobby.

Thanks to all

Well the best place would be a university collage or Vow Tech school. Truth is in most cases it is cheaper to just buy a new motherboard anymore than fixing them. It is good you want to learn but short of actual schooling there is only so much you can learn on your own. Some people seem to have a nack for it and there for it seems to come naturally. I have been tearing apart all sorts of electronics since I was old enough to hold a screw driver so I kinda self learned over the years but I still have alot to learn it is something I still have a passion for and if you are that way then read and learn all you can.

Thanks for the reply its really appreciated. I will look into the course because I too had thought about it. But can you tell me what sort of equipment should I buy and from where that will get me started in repairing just about any part on the motherboard ? If I can buy some of the equipment used that would be great. Do you use a multimeter and a special soldering gun or about a rework workstation ? Can you share what kind of tools that you use for troubleshooting these PCB's and their components ? Where do you get the parts from also any part that is ?
