would this CPU be good for gaming? I want to play games at 1080 x 1920 on high settings.

Thinking of getting a AMD Radeon HD 7870 graphics card.

Would this be sufficent?

Any advice would be grateful.

Solution
And it will not get any easier... Take the 8350 and 7870... I have it and it works great for ultra/high with AA off..I am looking into a 7950 though..

Thanks for your answer. However my question is whether this CPU and the graphics card mentioned would be able to play games on 1080 x 1920 on high settings.

Yeah you would be able to play games on 1080p at high settings. Don't go on ultra as it would make your PC struggle ..

If you stay at high, you are good to go.

You got to be kidding me AMDFanboy1 .. Put everything on high on Crysis 3 and see your frame rates dropping to 25 FPS.
Put everything on very high on BioShock Infinite and see same thing happening.

That is just the start .. with XBOXONE and PS4 ... even more demanding games would be made ..

I agree about the 3570k info being the better choice for gaming though... But if you are wanting to do other things such as editing and such the AMD is better... Again for GAMING ONLY the 3570k is the better option...

I would prefer the i5 for now, but 8350 is not a bad option. The games that are about will be more demanding but will also support more cores. This makes the 8350 more future proof.

for a measly few fps just get the 8350.....I mean can the human eye spot a few fps........I think not. keep it simple and go for the 8350 as it will serve you well for many years and use the extra cash for a card

Not to burst your bubble, but aren't the xbox one and ps4 both using 8-core processors? If so wouldn't that make the AMD a better choice if you're looking at gaming. Sure, i'm pretty much certain, games made just for the PC will most likely be better on Intel, but with the consoles using more cores, that'd surely make the AMD perform better in console ports (AKA, pretty much every game released on pc and consoles).

8350 is way up there.....when you need benchmarks to pick a cpu its pathetic lol real world 8350 and price is just simply tooooo good not to take.

benchmarking is simply done because the cpu vs cpu are so close it very hard to tell apart hence benchmarks.....so in real world terms the amd wins imho. also I don't like comparing amd vs intel simply because there is no fair completion as Microsoft and all other software is optimized purely for ntel as they have a bigger share in the market. :)

Yes, but just because most people don't have 8-Cores, it doesn't mean that the devs will be like "meh, most people only have 4, so we won't bother letting our engine make use of 8, we'll just let it run on 4-core MAX". I think the games will run great on 4 cores, but will run better on 8.

Yeah, i'd say 6-12 months after the release of both consoles is when we will see.

Hi, I got FX 8350 about three months. Factory setting in BIOS is a bitch, but when you sit down for a while and play with the options (I do not have OC in mind, also do not play too much if you do not understand it - better find out), gaming can be no problem as well as other use. Plus you know what they say...Haters are gonna hate... Personally, I am really happy having bought AMD for half a price of Intel product on the same performance level. That is all.
Have a nice day, M.R.
