arctic cooling freezer 7 pro rev 2 idle at 50C?

Hey i have had an AMD phenom 2 x4 965BE with the stock cooler since last February and it was usually idle at 40 - 45C. I bought the arctic cooling freezer 7 pro rev 2 and installed it yesterday.

now my CPU idles at 50 - 52C. i havent even tried putting it under load in fear it will overheat! everything is installed properly and fan runs at 1800rpm. its tightly screwed on and the fan points straight towards a vent so i dont think its an air flow problem (plus it never ran this hot with the stock POS).

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did you clean off the old thermal paste and reapply? If so how much did you apply?

Although the Artic freezer isnt high end, its pretty good and better than stock. I have a Freezer 13 on my 2500k @ 4.3Ghz and it runs at 37'c idle and 65'c on full load.

Hi, thanks for your reply! yes i did remove the old thermal paste, and i used the pre applied thermal paste on the cooler, would you reccomend buying a better thermal paste and re applying? also i forgot to add iv just disabled asus q-fan in the bios and my temps have already dropped to 45C idle.

Ah ok that sounds more like it. Is it cooler under full load now? It might just be that it was trying to keep the fan silent.

You might be able to get slightly better cooling with a decent paste.
