I only ran into this problem yesterday when I went to use my apple earpods on skype. It seems that when I go to speak into them, nothing is picked up on my PC. When I plug them in, a bubble appears in the bottom right letting me know that I've plugged them into the audio jack but nothing can be picked up.

Any help/solutions? Thanks.

More about : audio jacks working

Do the earpods have tip ring ring sleeve(4 contacts vs 3 on many computers)?

I would try another set of headphones and a separate mic to be sure.

More info on the system would help.

An image of 3 types of 3.5mm jacks as you can see, one was for mono the the next is for stereo and the last may be what you have(I say may because I have never tried the new ear pods.).

EDIT, Did a quick google, it looks like the earpods ARE TRRS, so you have to ensure your sound card can even work with them.

I am almost sure your issue is related to a compatibility issue.

Simply put the computer does not have the required TRRS plug for the heatset you are running. They do make adapters to convert it into 2 x TRS plugs, BUT the Earpods are a bit newer so I can not guarantee the compatibility.

Can you try any other headphones and tell us if they work? Also can you screen shot your Sound Menu for me?

I've tried a mic and it works. Which tab in my sound menu do you want me to screen shot?
