Alright, I have had my current computer for over 2 years now and it has served me well, but its time to build a new one. My i5-760, even overclocked to just under 4 GHz, is showing its age.

I have been on these forums for quite a while now, so I am quite confident with the majority of the parts, but I am always open for recommendations.

Approximate Purchase Date: end of this week, 6/7/2013

Budget Range: For the parts I need to purchase, $900

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, streaming shows online, minimal video encoding/editing

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: CPU, Motherboard, SSD, Heatsink

Do you need to buy OS: Yes, Windows 7 Home 64 bit

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg.com

Location: South Florida, Miami area.

Parts Preferences: Intel

Overclocking: Yes

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080 two monitor set up.

Additional Comments:

Ok, here are the parts I current own and will be reusing:

Case: Coolermaster HAF 932 Advanced http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119160
PSU: Antec HCG-750 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371049
GPU: MSI 660ti OC TwinFrozr http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127696
Memory: G.Skill Ares 2x4GB 1600MHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231546
HHD x2 (storage): 500 GB WD Black & 1 TB Samsung Spinpoint F3

Now for the parts that I plan on purchasing:

CPU: i5-4670k http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116899
Mobo: MSI Z87-GD65 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130692
SSD (OS+): OCZ Vertex 450 Series 256 GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227967
CPU Heatsink: ??? I was thinking the CM 212 Evo, but I have been reconsidering possibly going with one of the Xigmatek coolers instead...any recommendations?

This is my biggest question for the post. What cooler should I get. I dont really want to spend $110 on the Corsair h100i and I think the Noctua NH-D14 is hideous, so I am open to suggestions. Anything in the $30-$80 range? I know there are not a lot of options out there right now, but that is what I have to work with.

You realise that the 4NNN Series arent great for overclocking, most people have had to use watercooling to get it above 4ghz, if you want to overclock go get an i5 3570K (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168191165043) or an i7 if you can stretch a little extra

As for the cooler
Corsair H55
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181029&Tpk=Corsair%20H55&IsVirtualParent=1 ($76)

SSD:
you could get 2 of these and set them up in raid 0 which would be faster and cheaper. slightly less storage though.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147188 ($198)

Mobo:
Asus Sabertooth
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131821 ($240)

But if you want to stick to haswell anyway what you have is fine.

No - I will veto this suggestion. The plastic thermal armor on the Sabertooth is an absolutely horrible design that does nothing but trap heat and recirculate it. You can get a much less expensive motherboard that still does the same functions and doesn't have that cheap armor on it. I'll also veto the suggestion of that cheap liquid cooler - if you're going to do liquid use the real thing or not at all.

Yes, I do realize that Haswell isnt overclocking as well as originally anticipated, but despite that, I am still planning an 1150 build.

As far as the motherboard goes, I considered the Sabertooth, but the thermal armor and the tiny fans on it has never seemed like a good idea to me, the fans seem like a dust magnet more than anything else. On top of that I just didnt see anything on the Sabertooth that warranted the extra $60 expense over the MSI GD65. I was originally wanting to get the Asus Maximus IV Hero, but they dont have it on Newegg or Tigerdirect, so I settled with the MSI board.

And with the SSD, im just really interested to see what OCZ has done with their new controller.
