Approximate Purchase Date: Soon

Budget Range: 850

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Medium-Quality Gaming and Surfing the Web

Are you buying a monitor: Yes

Do you need to buy OS: Yes, but this isn't included in the budget

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg

Location: Seattle, Washington, USA (No, there isn't I microcenter up here)

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Additional Comments: So my planned graphics card was discontinued the day before I had everything finalized. It was the Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 XT 2GB Video Card. So I'm asking for some advice on a new video card and my current builds (linked below.) I was thinking that I could go with the AMD and get a better graphics card, or go with the Intel and get a decent graphics card. I don't need a ton of fps, but I need enough to run BF3 at a playable/enjoyable speed in HD.
Thanks,
Brendan

You can currently get the 7870 XT on Amazon, and it is prime eligible if you have a prime account! But other than that tidbit of info those both look pretty good and will be able to play on medium settings at 1080p with ease

Ok, but if the 7870 XT was discontinued it makes me a bit worried that a better, newer model is coming out. Thanks for your help!

Newer models are *ALWAYS* coming out, you just have to buy when you do and accept that.

This would be far better for $850 - $900:

That's a great build but you left no room for the monitor. Anyhow I think his Intel build looks pretty solid. AMD won't make any better model of 7870. I don't expect them to release a new card any time soon

If you look deeper into Newegg's item policies, "discontinued" is a label they use sometimes for "out of stock". Tahiti LE based cards are hard to come by as AMD limits the amount that they release so that they aren't competing with themselves. The Tahiti based 7870s are only about $10 more expensive than a regular 7870 but significantly more powerful.

OP didn't specify whether the monitor was in a separate budget or not. I usually don't include monitors since that's mainly a personal preference thing.

To be honest with you I wouldn't invest in a GPU at the moment. I would wait until the next gen of video cards arrive before buying because games are going to be more graphics heavy starting with the new gen of consoles.
But if you really need a new GPU then I would go with either a gtx 660 super overclocked or a hd 7950
