Computer black-screening while playing certain games.

Hey, recently, well, not recently, like a few months ago my PC has started to act really weird.

While playing some games, like MW2, BF3, GRID 2 and sometimes even Minecraft, my computer's screen goes black, the sound loops for like 3 seconds, and it seems to go into hibernation mode or something, because my mouse logo and headsets LED's are still on. The fans go quiet, but LEDs are still flashing inside my PC.

I've monitored the temperatures of my GPU and CPU while gaming, and it doesn't seem to overheat, the GPU's max is like 54C, and the CPU goes to about 71-73.

When I play games like FiFA13 it doesn't do that, but when I try and crank up the graphics a little, it then black screens aswell.. It's weird, I can play MW3 and BO2 fine, but MW2 seems to crash alot. And GRID 2 is even worse, I can't even get past the 1st race.

I've dusted the GPU completely, there's pretty much no visible dust, the main back fan is running fine and is clean aswell.

I'll list my specs here:

MoBo: Intel DH61-CR
Processor: Intel Core i5 2500 @ 3.3GHZ (Turbo Boost 3.7GHZ)
HDD: ST310005 24AS (Seagate) (Sata 2-3 GB/s)
GPU: Nvidia GForce GTX 550 Ti
RAM:Kingston DDR3 8GB (CT2KIT102464BA1339)
PSU: Chieftec GPA-500S8

I bought this machine over a year ago in the winter.

Can anyone please help? Thanks!

Yah your cpu temps are way to high should do something soon or will end up killing it.the black screen is most likely your cpu it also can possibly be your psu not being able to handle under full load. Its possible your cpu is not locked into place temps that high usually is from overclocking a lot with stock cooler. If your not over clocking the highest it should go would be in low to mid 60s with bad airflow in the case. i have a 2600k before i put it on liquid i rarely hit over 55c, now i cant even get the cpu to go over 34c with liquid.

What do you recommend I do? Should I just take it in to a shop?

Well, I wasn't the one who applied the thermal paste, I haven't really ever added thermal paste, so I'm not sure about that, and the fan is spinning fine. I think I'll just not play any games for a few weeks and take it in to the shop where I bought it from.

Thermal paste "wear out" over time. It's very easy to reapply. Just go to youtube and search for it. One time, my GPU temp goes all the way to 90 and I redid the thermal and now it's 60-70.

I think it is the 550ti. yup thats the same as the problem in my last reply and the same problem i have. Ive changed power supply, hard drive, mobo and ram. Speed fan has a nice feature you can set it to beep when it hits a certain temp. GPU never goes above 70 well the cpu never goes above
