ur prly looking at a re-install of windows if you want to replace ur existing setup. you'll need a new copy of windows which will run u over $100. Then you will need to search HP's site for all of the drivers for your computer, so all the hardware works after you get Windows installed fresh.

Don't we need it to run virtual hard drives ? I like to run other OS's and i Test a lot of programs so i need to be able to do that . I was led to believe virtualization wouldn't work if you didn't have PRO. Would Virtual Box still work ?

just use VirtualBox. It's free, has all the features of VMware (which is what ALL the businesses use), and it's easy to use. You will also be able to give others images of machines should you want to give them a copy for any reason, since it is compatible with most virtualization image formats, and VirtualBox is free. (it's just a program that gets installed like any other program and the machines are just saved as files, and it's made by Oracle - which are the makers of JAVA - so you know it's a professional grade program)

OK so i don't really need PRO ? is windows 8 like windows 7 where certain services couldn't be activated or used if you didn't have home premium and above ? are virtualization and bitlocker the only differences between Pro ? because if it is i might not need to upgrade then ? does normal windows 8 allow for virtual hard drives to be created ?

You can use the Add features to your edition button under Windows Activation to enter your professional key to change the edition without reinstallation. Simply type activation at the Start Screen, select settings, and then select Windows Activation. Click the button for Add features to your edition, select I already have a product key and enter your key. The instructions for this process can be found here at Microsoft.com.

In regards to the virtualization software component, Hyper-V is a type 1 hypervisor, meaning that it is able to directly access processor and memory resources without an emulation layer to pass through the host operating system. Details on the architecture can be found here. You may want to watch the video Client Hyper-V and Why It Matters for more details.

VirtualBox essentially performs the same function, but is free, as opposed to an expensive upgrade. besides, you can manage resource usage and allocation in virtualbox for each VM. it's easy peasy
