Odd problem with steam games

i have no idea what could be causing this problem but basically when i go to play certain games on steam i just get a blank blue screen with background sound and can't get off it without alt tabbing off, its not the bsod its just blank. i'm using windows 8 is this the problem or is it my tv/monitor?

I can't tell you what the problem is just by what you have posted, but it is very unlikely to have anything to do with your monitor or TV. If your computer displays images normally and only goes blank on steam games, it is probably a software issue. Check if there aren't any programs running that could interfere with steam, specially things that hook onto other processes (game launchers, trainers, VGA overclocking tools and the like).

Other than that, I have zero experience with Windows 8, so I can't help if it is a OS-specific issue.
