so what i see from his words is that its not in the "My computer/ Computer" page.
Yes it true that it might be defect.

Please press on start button, right click on Computer then click manage. Click Device manager , open the CD/DVD rom like this :

See if there is any Optical drives in that list.
Post feedback and let us know. If printscreen included would be the best.

i clicked the list that says dvd/cd-rom drives &it only has cd-rom drive under it. i clicked it and it said
under the 'device status' : "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

Okay, well I hope COLGeek can help you further. going to eat my dinner.. skipped already 2-4 hours without eating anything from my midday "Breakfast of few breads" when i get back i see what i can do. In any case, try note down that Optical model number etc and uninstall it from properties there and then download install from internet see if this gonna help. see you later. Hope it will fix it.

Go into Control Panel and then Device Manager. Find the DVD drive (a.k.a. optical drive). Right click on it. Select uninstall. Restart the system. If not defective, Windows will reload the drivers when it finds the "new" DVD drive.
