I have read that there are different types of CCTV systems that are available. However, there are a lot of questions that are running in my mind because I’m planning to install a cctv system to protect my small business but my friends say that it’s not advisable since it’s just a small area. Even though it’s just a small area, I still believe that that area needs to be protected. I want to know if it’s okay or not to set up a cctv system for that area and if it is okay, then what type of cctv should I use for that small area?
Furthermore, should I install cameras, too? Or should I just settle for alarms?

It's not very hard or expensive to set up. geeks.com has a pretty good selection starting at $15 and going up from there.

I can shed a little light on this. I have a 4 camera + dvr set up for the house. Relatively inexpensive...I think it was $160 on sale when I got it a couple of years ago. Somewhat similar to this one.
Attached to a spare monitor, and it's been running continuously for 2 years.

Camera resolution - the inexpensive setups are not that great. To recognize a face, you have to be pretty close. I can determine type and color of car from about 50'.
Better (more expensive!) cameras would provide better resolution.

But they do provide a deterrence factor. Crooks are looking for easy prey. Having visible cameras may make them go on to the next place. At home, I have two cameras right on the front of the house, with a big sign in the window - "Smile, you're on CCTV!"

We got it because we were having 'issues' with some of the kids in the neighborhood. After catching one of them once on camera, and pointing out the all-seeing eyes....they stopped completely.

I did find one in geeks.com and it’s not so expensive. Anyway, you can install at least 2 cameras if you want.
