Hello,

I have recently ordered components for a pc build, the build is not yet complete and made as cheap as possible (mainly on HDD, amount of ram). I have build the PC up, no issues with case or the majority of the parts. Once completed the PC does switch on, the fans (CPU / PSU / Case) power up and run no problem.
The PC "sounds" like it is running correctly, making the usual sort of noises I was expecting. However once connected to a display it will not project a image.

PC build is as follows:

AMD FX 6300
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P AM3+
Corsair TW3X4G1333C9A XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 Memory
CiT 450W 12cm Silent Fan Dual Rail Power Supply
Western Digital 160GB AV 3.5 sata 3
CiT Vantage Midi Mesh Gaming Case
TP-Link TL-WN781ND 150Mbps Wireless PCI

All plugs have been tripple checked, motherboard installed correctly etc etc but no screen.
Gigabyte do state there are on board graphics with the motherboard, so it should support a display.

At the present there is no dedicated graphics card, due to lack of funds at the present. I will get one by the end of this month.

Any surgestions as to why it won't project to a monitor (through VGA cable at the moment, can get a DVI). Is it due to a lack of graphics card, or compatability issue?

This is my first but did research before hand on pc partpicker which stated everything was compatible.

Thank you in advance,

J

That the Gigabyte board has onboard graphics does not mean that the mobo outputs the signal. It is merely a passthrough for what comes from the integrated graphics module on the CPU.

Does that CPU have integrated graphics built in? I do not think so (but I'm not an AMD cpu guy)

As far as I can find the fx6300 has no on board graphics of any sort , I wonder if its because the on board gpu that can't push the picture? I do not have a motherboard speaker at the mo,net so I was not able to tell if it would bleep

That board actually has an onboard Radeon 3000 graphics chipset. FX CPUs have no integrated GPU, either.

I live over in the uk so can't order from newegg , either the one you suggested or something such as
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-M5A97-R2-0-Motherboard-PCI-Express/dp/B008RPZ5SC/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1370294740&sr=1-1&keywords=asus+amd+motherboards

Sorry, bad habit. I always go to Newegg.

That will work with your CPU, but it has no integrated GPU (newer 970 series chipset). You can get that, then wait for the discreet GPU. That would be a better option long term, as anything with an onboard graphics chipset is already 1 - 2 generations old.

Right ill try and get one with an integrated graphics to tide me over until I can get a dedicated card. Hopefully that's the only issue with the build , slight change and all will be well. Thanks for the help man
