First off, I really apologize, since I don't think that this question really warrants its own thread, but I need to know, and I can not really find any evidence or intelligence online that suggests an i7-2700k will run a gtx 780 with no fps drop.

So essentially here is my cpu - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-i7-2700K-Processor-HyperThreading-Technology/dp/B005X55OR6/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1370293858&sr=1-1&keywords=i7+2700k

And bluntly put the question is will my cpu make the titans little brother lose FPS? I have it at the stock speed running at 3.50 ghz, and I really do not plan on overclocking it. I know it is an ivy bridge - and I do not get the utility of the PCI-e 3.0 slot, but I found out that the difference for cards at the moment is essentially nothing between PCI-e 2.0 & 3.0 so that is no big deal via a article online that compared benchmarks in both slots with a GTX 680.

Please guys, your insight would be obliged and could potentially put my mind at peace for buying the card.

Yes, a 2700k is an absolutely perfect match.

Haswell and Ivy bridge is faster at stock speeds, but 2700k can be overclocked more easily.

Edited to add, I just noticed you said you don't plan to overclock. 2700k is still great at stock. (Overclocking is easy though, you should give it a try :) ).

Besides, even with a 780 you could get a slower CPU and still max out your GPU. In most situations, the GPU will still be the limiting factor.

Don't worry, it will be a good combination!

*Processors have not moved too far lately, so yours is still good
*Games usually far more dependant on GPU, especially when you crank up graphics settings

Big thanks to the four of you for posting, and it is nice to see all your answers correlate as well. The thing that got me stumped was whether or not overclocking it would be a essential though, because the stereotypical guy these days seems to be overclocking their cpu to 4.0 ghz, I do not know why this is a requirement for people, but I guess that is besides the point.

So I guess the last question to you guys would be is overclocking it a necessity?

You wouldn't buy a ferrari 485 to drive slow?? Same way the i7 2700k is made to be overclocked!
