Just built a computer and I can not get the graphics card to work?

I just built my second computer and when I turn it on, the fan on the video card spins for a second and then stops and the screen doesn't turn on. I tried different video cards and exchanged the original one and the same thing happens. One of the video cards ran the fan but the display was still not working. I don't know what could be causing this, my motherboard only has one slot for a video card and I set everything up properly, I even tried trouble shooting everything but it just wont work. Could this be that the GPU socket on my motherboard is a lemon and I would have to change it? It's driving me nuts!

I have the GeForce 620.

Can this somehow be caused by the CPU by any chance? Because it felt as if the chip wasn't fitting in properly but I could be wrong and I can't check it now because the heatsink is on top of it. Or would this be the motherboard? I am so confused.

Solution
the cpu can ( should ) only go in 1 way. did you look at the pamphlet that came with the processor? it'll show the "triangles" that are supposed to be lined up. you're also supposed to raise the retention arm before putting the processor in. did you do these things?

Yes, I matched the triangles and I pulled the arm up before putting it in and then cranked it downward. Can the CPU be the cause of this problem though?

The video card doesn't have any power supply on it (the 4/8 pin) as it's a very small cheap card. I plugged power into the motherboard and my dvd drive as well as my ssd. I didn't try the ram yet but any other options too?

I tried all HDMI VGA & DVI connections and yes I have plugged both power sockets on the motherboard in with power. EVERYTHING was done correctly. I think it's just a faulty motherboard.
