im having a hard time figuring out whats wrong with this macbook pro. it hasn't been able to boot into the OS for a couple days now and when it has its been super slow. now it wont boot at all. i thought it was just a bad hard drive but when i put a different one in it still wouldn't recognize it. i know the hard drive works b/c i hooked it up externally to another computer and it reads fine.

i went into disk utility through the OSX install disc that it originally came with but it only sees the DVD drive, no matter what hard drive i put in there. now i dont know what to do next. is it a bad SATA cable or something?

its a 2010 model mc374LL/a. also does apple charge for diagnostics on a computer that is out of warranty?

thanks

i would recommend bringing it in to check for problems, i do not know if they will charge you, but your best chance would be to bring the computer to the apple store. also, if you don't want to bring the mac in, if you have another computer that uses the same type of cable (SATA) try plugging it in to the other computer, then run diagnostics if the computer detects it. (Do At Your Own Risk Just In Case There Is A Virus On The Hard Disk)
Best Of Luck :D

Do you have a big question mark when this happens?
