I've got a CQ5205Y PC with a Narra5 MOBO. Nothing fancy, and it's getting up there in the years.

I just ordered an AMD Athlon II X3 450 3.2ghz Tri-core 95W processor to replace my current Athlon 7850 2.8 Dual core to help with a bottlenecking issue I've been experiencing with a GTX 470 I recently bought from a friend.

After much research, I've come to find that my Narra5 is TDP to 95 watts, though from what I read it will support a 95W AM3 CPU. My question is, will I need to update my BIOS to use said chip, considering they're both 95W chips?

Solution
More than likely, yes. But you would have to find the BIOS you have now and see what CPUs it supports. It isn't the fact that both processors are 95W that matters. It is that the BIOS must recognize the parameters of the new CPU. But I don't know what kind of luck you'll have finding that information.

On the other hand, if your PC is an HP with this MB: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c01701270#N114
...you may already have a late enough BIOS to make that CPU work. If so, check under the "processor upgrade information" heading.
