Is flashing your BIOS risky?

I just bought a used laptop from Cowboom. Upon bootup, the Dell logo appeared and that it said internal hard disk not found with error code 2000-0332. I checked the BIOS and it's listed. Then I went to Dell's site with the error code, and apparently you're supposed to reflash the BIOS. I've never done this before, so I'm not sure if I should do it or just return it.

If I understand correctly, apparently you can do this by downloading the appropriate bios from Dell's site (already done), then burn it to a CD with imgburn? Should that work if I just insert it in the laptop even though it doesn't bootup Windows? (It's supposed to have a key for Windows 8, but I'm not sure if that'll never be regained if I flash the bios).

I think I'll hold off then and probably just return it.
