I recently purchased the Corsair 500r however it comes with a large side fan intake, and where my PC is located the side fan would receive little air due to the side being enclosed. Would removing the side fan strongly effect the airflow of the case? And is there a solution in order to counterbalance the effect of removing it?

Thanks,
Simon

First of all, why would you want to remove the fan? Where is your PC located exactly?
If your case is just 1 cm away from the wall or wherever it stands, it's enough for the fan to provide your components with fresh air. But otherwise if it stands touching a wall and the fan wouldn't get air from outside, it would just cause air turbulences in the case, thus it would be more efficient to remove it. As long as you don't have passive cooled graphic cards and/or CPU it would make a difference of maybe +/- 1-3°C, depending on your components and current configuration. I would say it's not necessary to counterbalance it somehow, but the praxis shows better, just watch your temperatures and you will see by yourself.
