Hi.

I Have come across a strange problem after updating to BIOS-version 1802. The vcore will not go any higher than 1.200v no matter what I set it too. I have tried both manual and offset voltage but nothing helps. If I leave it on auto it will be between 1.170 and 1.200v.

I have tried CMOS-reset which doesn't seem to help. It does report 1.37v on the first boot in "ez-mode" but upon reboot again it goes back to 1.170-1.200v.

I am wondering if it is a bug in this bios version, or if something is seriously wrong?

I can not downgrade to previous version as I get an "image is outdated" error message, and I have also heard it is not reccomended as there are also firmware updates for the various chipset.

I'm sad. I had a stable 4.2ghz overclock of my Phenom II 965be with 1.4125v vcore, and now it is barely stable at stock speeds because of the low voltage. And I bought this board for it's claims of massive overcklocking.

I have contacted asus also but so far nothing. I was hoping you guys could help.

Thanks

//Ozzed

Edit: I was able to use the asus usb flashback to revert bios version back to the previous one, so as far as I'm concerned the solution is to simply stay away from the faulty bios-version.

The "improved system stability" sounded nice enough, but yeah you should probably wait with updating if things are working fine for you.

I have not tried with software yet. I will when I come home though, for testing purposes. I've never been a fan of the "AI suites" and all the services and bling blip blip they have to keep running to make it work. Not to mention it grants itself the right to mess with load line calibration and whatnot, But I will try for testing purposes.

Same, it's always better to do it directly in the BIOS, and if the software doesn't make it work though then that's definitely a problem, sounds almost like your update didn't work properly, especially if rolling it back causes problems as well.

Son of a bus! :0 it seems to work with software. I installed AI-suite II and started turbo EVO, and it reports 1.4125v right off the bat, without me having changed anything. CPU-z also reports the same, and temperatures get a little higher, so I think it's actually changing to the correct voltage just from reading the settings in the bios, but this would mean that I'd have to do a manual overclock everytime I start windows... Not happening... And it's not booting at 4.2GHZ with a vcore of 1.20v for sure..

In any case I'm happy to find out that nothing is wrong with the vrm's... Now "all" that remains is to figure out why BIOS does not set the correct voltage. Has anyone got any ideas?

Edit: I was a bit fast it seems. Now I can't even set the voltage with software. damn. Oh well.. I just got a reply from ASUS. They adviced me to try USB-flashback to the earlier version via the button on the back of the MB, so I'll do that, and post back with results, hopefully from the very computer that has the problem.
