Are there different types of keyboard ribbon? I accidentally disconnected mine when taking my laptop apart for a cleaning and its too short to put back together. I guess the child workers have very small hands cos not even my wife's could squeeze in to reconnect it. So yeah. If I buy a longer ribbon do I have to worry about compatibility?

Glad you found what you needed. Using the model of your pc is always best - people will part out laptops and you can find great deals.

You may find it very difficult to get a compatible ribbon cable for your laptop. The connector may be proprietary to the laptop maker, and finding one just a couple mm longer will be very unlikely.

Make sure you have the connector oriented correctly - the mounting may not be vertical, but horizontal.

What laptop do you have?

Ah, i managed to get the thing reconnected. The problem was that i still had it taken apart when i was connecting the keyboard. I was getting in my own way. turns out there's a simple little snap on plastic cover over 4 screws and with it set up like that there's more than enough length in the ribbon to connect it. now i just need to get a new keyboard cos the W key is worn out. Any suggestions on a good place to get a replacement?

Just wanted to get back to this for closure. I ended up finding a matching keyboard on eBay for about 12 dollars. Seems the cheapest way to search parts for laptops is by their model number because the seller might not know what machines they're compatible with but they do have the model number written on the component. there were no keyboards on the internet that matched C650D for less than $40 but NSK-TN05V had many lower cost options.
