A buddy of mine from work needs to send his MotherBoard back under warranty and needs a place to put his processor...is there any procedure i should follow and how should I store it until he gets his board back

Face down somewhere that it won't be found. Somewhere away from carpet. Never touch a cpu unless you touch something metal first to discharge static electricity and never walk on carpet with any computer parts.
