The ENVY dv7t-7300 Select Edition series with NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GT 635M Graphics with 1024MB of dedicated video memory

or....

The HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC with NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GT 630M Graphics with 1GB GDDR3 memory

I mostly plan on playing DayZ and The Sims 3 w/ the expansions.

I would go with the dv6t - either the 630M or the 635M would probably be sufficient for Sims 3, but I would step it up to a 650 for DayZ. When you're buying a laptop, you are investing in something you have very few components you can change so I usually recommend spending to the top end of your budget so you don't have buyer's remorse in 6 months when a new game comes out that has higher requirements.

I also don't think gaming laptops make sense for that reason - you could build a great desktop for the same amount of money and have the ability to swap parts easily. Just my two cents...

What about the HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC (https://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/cart_detail.do?pageLink=true&bvLoadCart=1&action=add&disp_msg=0) with NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GT 650M Graphics with 2GB GDDR5 memory?

I can raise my budget a bit, but I'd like to keep it around $800-$850 w/ tax. And I'm really looking for HP Notebooks because I get a student discount! If you have any other suggestions, throw 'em at me.

Sorry if I was asking for a lot earlier, but I need something that would be efficient for school and suitable gaming (as in medium settings) since I'm leaving for college this fall. I could definitely build a better desktop around that price but having a laptop would be more practical for everyday use lol. And don't worry I'm not mad about anything! I'm just a bit new to all of this

That link unfortunately didn't include the content, but the 650 would be worth the money. GPU and CPU are the two things you're going to be stuck with so make sure you shoot to the top of your budget with those. You can always install RAM yourself and replace the hard drive down the road with either a higher performance SSD or a larger capacity HDD depending on your needs.

That quad core will get the job done and $375 for the next step up is not worth it in my opinion. I think that will help you take care of business for class and game in between.

I think I'm gonna go for the i7-3630QM variant Lenovo Y400. The resolution may not be the best but I think I'll manage, and for it to be under $800 w/ tax included it sounds good to me! Butttt.... are there any major problems I may face with this laptop?

Nope, looks fine to me. That laptop is quite powerful. It'll run Sims 3 and DayZ fine.
