Basically, I game after my wife falls asleep. I have a Sony Viao WGN-AW125J. Duo 2 4Ghz mem. Old NVidia. Spacrbar kind sticks. I love it because of the crystal clear 18.3 1080p screen.
It's getting old.
Last time I over clocked a computer I was switching plastic caps on the GPU. I use a cool pad. Can I route a desktop though my laptop to use the screen in bed, or overclock this pretty hot Laptop? Thanks guys

Overclocking your laptop may not be a great idea. Aside from the fact that most manufacturers don't allow access to the base frequency and CPU multiplier settings on BIOS, laptops are designed with a very narrow thermal limit.

Besides, the VGA is likely holding your gaming back, not your CPU. Overclocking a laptop's VGA is also risky, due to the thermal solution. It is also unlikely to be worth the effort.

There are some new technologies, like HDMI in, which allows you to input HDMI from an external source, though I don't think it is even on the market yet.

Now even if you did get the laptop to work as a monitor, how would you use it on your bed? You'd have to use a wireless keyboard and mouse on the bed, which is also not ideal.

If you really want to game on your bed, I'm afraid you'll have to fork out some cash on a new lappy. Maybe you could run some games that aren't very demanding while on the bed. I myself always end up spending a lot on the desktop to end up playing old classics like X-COM, Baldur's Gate and good ol' DotA.

Alternatively, you could run a media server on the desktop and watch movies/series on the notebook.

Well, It appears that Sony already overclocks the WGN-AW125J's CPU 2.66Ghz Duo Core 2, but they hadn't overclocked the 9800 Geforce GT. I got 6.9% improved average fps by maxing that out and putting it on a cool pad ($20). Nothing to get excited about but that was the outcome.
