Will a 12 Pin SATA be sufficient for my hard drive?

I posted something like this in 'components' but it looks like there's more sata related topics on this board soo

I have a sata hard drive being powered by a 15 pin sata->4 pin connector->psu

The issue is I want to use that 4 pin connector to make up the second needed for a 6 pin pci e adapter for a gtx 660

There is one unused sata power cable which seems to be exactly the same size and shape as the hard drives connection but instead it has 12 pins as opposed to 15, and another identical 12 pin one powers the optical dvd drive

Ive trawled google searches and cant find anything referencing 12 pin sata cables so I registered today just to try and get a seasoned opinion, would said available 12 pin sata work ok in the hard drive and free up the 4 pin connector i need?

any help would be amazing , would rather not have to shell out on a different psu on top of a new graphics card!

Solution
The extra three pins are for +3.3V, which most devices don't use. As you were powering it off a peripheral adapter already, it doesn't have it now.

You'll be fine.

Suggest you check your PSU is good enough for your GPU; cheap ones aren't a good bargain if they catch fire.

ahh legend thanks a lot for the help! E

Edit-disconnected the dvd drive and hooked up the hard drive with that cable and everythings fine at the moment.

I hope the psu is good enough, the website i bought it off only describes it as a 'branded psu' so ill have look into it some more , is only havin 3 4 pin connectors and 3 sata cables indicative of a poor psu?

made by the prestigious 'win power' these are the specs

Model: AD-E500AE-A5/A6
AC Input: 115V/60Hz 230V/50Hz
DC Output: +3.3V | +5V | +12V1 | +12V2 | -12V | +5VSB
Max Output Current: 15A | 18A | 14A | 14A | 0.5A | 2A
Total Power: 500W

I saw one selling on ebay for 8 pounds so needless to say i got one of these on the way instead http://www.scan.co.uk/products/550w-psu-xfx-core-edition-p1-550s-xxb9-85-eff-80-plus-bronze-sli-crossfire-eps-12v-quiet-fan-atx

think the company i bought it off must have been cutting corners just a bit- 'branded' doesnt mean shit if its a no name brand
