Hi,

I've decided to do a pc upgrade and want to overclock my i5 750 from 2.67 Ghz to 4.0 Ghz.
I'm looking into buying a new cooler (because I have the standard one) but can't figure out which one has the best price~quality ratio.

I want to keep it air-based and want to keep the price low.

Any ideas?

(I've read different threads but all of them date back from 2010 so I thought I'd make a new one, might be better hardware around now.)

Get the H212 evo it has one of the best price/performance ratio.

Would the H212 evo allow me to get to a stable 4.0 Ghz?

Has this been done before?

Edit:

Also looking at the Mugen 3 & Noctua NH-U12P SE2, which both look rather interesting as well.

OP has probably bought one, but since this pops up as one of top results for "i5 750 cooler", I fugure it's worth responding to:

You do need a Noctua NH D14 or equivalent when clocking i5 750 to 4 GHz. H212 Evo, 412, Scythe Kama Cross Grand/Kabuto/Ninja 2/Katana 3 - all fail to keep the temperature (with ambient ~25) below 72,7, which is the temp limit specified by Intel as within specs. It'll not shut off at that temperature, but you're damaging the CPU all the same.

Akasa Nero S, Noctua u12P/c12P all come a bit too close for comfort (over 70 degrees). Scythe Mugen 2, Cooling Corator, and Noctua NH D14 (both single and dual fan configuration) all cool it to sub 70 degrees, with Noctua really comfortable at 66. Note that if a heat wave comes, even the Noctua will probably start going well overboard with the temperature.

Above was based on (it's not in English, but pictures/tables are all names and numbers. Scroll to around middle for test on OC'd CPU):
