Hi there!

So, I'm in the mist of getting an performance SSD with a reasonable price-tag, and my research guided me to the Sandisk Extreme 240gb for 170$ Canadian. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2192691&csid=_61

Sounds like a good buy, and the folks over Storagereview seem to like it as well... but I want Tom's community's opinion :). Got any other suggestions for under 200$ Can-US before tax? I also know that the Extreme II series is just around the corner, which is probably why there's a discount on it right now, but that's fine by me (unless it's really worth it to wait for that in your opinions).

Also, Sandforce... is it really as bad as some people make it out to be? Should I switch to something else at all cost?

Thanks for your help! I'm looking to buy before the end of the day.

1) Although I do not prefer Sandforce Based SSD, NO they are not all that bad. They got a real bad rap when they first came out but all those problems have been fix. They do real well on data that is highly compressable - reason there scores are better with ATTO, but not as high with say AS SSD benchmark. OS and program files tend to be not so compressable.
.. But then benchmarks are NOT all that good at predicting real performance as most better SSDs all perform very similar in real life.

My preference for SSDs are:
1) Samsung 840 pro - but normally higher priced and do not perform much better than the Crucial M4 and Plextor M5P
2) For Value / least user problems and reliability I prefer the Crucial M4 and Plextor M5P, and Samsung 830 if you can still find it.
3) My value pick is the Samsung 840 Non-Pro. The TLC has a lower life cycle for writes than MLC and Toggle NAND; HOWEVER, it should still out live it's useful life (useful life = a gain changing new tech that then becomes the MUST have - LOLs).
