Installing old ide hdd on new pc

Hi guys i just bought an ide to sata adapter to install my old hdd on my new pc, but the old hdd has win xp os and the new win 7 so i wanted to know how can i format the old one ?

1. Boot order to only boot from the new drive
2. Start it up and format the old drive
3. There is no #3

the windows disk will have the option on it when you try to install the OS. It will ask you where you want to install the OS this is when you get to choose to format the drive. Formatting the drive will wipe every thing on that drive, If you were not already aware.
