I have been having an issue with my computer for a couple of months now. I will be working along and my screen will go black for a couple of seconds. I will move around my mouse and my screen comes back up. Then it will go black again for a couple of seconds.... I have to move my mouse around to get it to go away. I also have a second problem and I don't know if it's related or not. I will be typing and my cursor will disappear like I have clicked off of the page. I then have to click on to where I left off. I can only type approximately 5-10 words and it happens again!! It drives me crazy!

Hi ! I might sound little crazy but in order to help you I need some information.

Firstly, did you tried to check screen saver?
Right click on desktop and select personalize and a window will open and make sure screen saver is set to none.

Secondly, what type of monitor you are using LCD or CRT?

Thirdly, Try to update your graphics drivers.
In order to update graphics drivers first thing you need to do is update windows it might contain updates for your graphics card and if it does not then visit manufacturer website (Dell) check support section and install recent version that is available.

You have also mentioned that your mouse doing weird things. Now this may be due to several reasons. Check that you are using it on right surface because if mouse is optical then it may need a right surface or may be your mouse has low dpi. Last but not least scan your system if it is infected because all the symptoms that you have mentioned also points towards presence of virus. Because mysterious processes running in background can also cause these effects.

Ok, this is frustrating, because I'm just not computer smart! I guess that's why I'm this blog, huh?
1st... I checked the screen saver and switched it to none... Then I rebooted. The black screen thing seems to be better! Well see how long that is going to last!! LOL
2nd...my monitor is an LG again I'm sorry.... don't know if it is LCD or CRT.
The mouse thing... oh my, that is driving me crazy... I can't even type a full sentence and it clicks off the page. I have a Microsoft wireless optical mouse 2.0. I use it directly on my desk. I also have a Wacom Bamboo tablet with a pen. The first Wacom tablet I had, had a mouse with it and I actually used mouse on the tablet. This version didn't come with a mouse so I got a wireless mouse to use for when I don't need to use the tablet. Do you think the two together is causing an issue? This problem just started a couple of months ago and I've been using both the tablet and mouse together for a lot longer than that.
Lastly, It seemed to me that this all started when I updated my McAfee. McAfee came with this computer and when it was time to renew, I thought I would just re-up with them. Could there be an issue with them?

If the monitor is a flat screen and thin then it is not a CRT and is probably an LCD screen though it could be LED depending on how new it is. Not sure if this will help but have you replaced the batteries in your wireless mouse recently? Is the keyboard a wireless keyboard or is it connected via a cable? As far at the mouse and Wacom tablet goes that shouldn't be a problem as I have almost the same setup (wired mouse instead of wireless mouse) and have not had the issues you are having. So, no, I don't think the tablet/mouse combo is the issue. To check for Windows updates you can try the following:
Click on Start
Click on All Programs
Scroll near the top of the list and look for "Windows Update"
Once you find it you can click on it and it will open a window that will allow you to check for updates.
If you will provide the make (Dell, Asus, HP, etc.) and model of your computer I might be able to help you find any driver updates you may need.

Hi Rosie! It seems to me that your mouse is causing the problem. You are using wireless mouse and when pointer starts to disappear that indicates that now is time to replace batteries. Replace batteries and check if it works properly. Secondly, you also mentioned that it clicks it self and this can be due to weak batteries or mouse completed its life span and now is time to buy a new mouse.

Thanks guys for all your help.... I changed the batteries in my wireless mouse and that wasn't the problem. I also tried to put a non wireless mouse on the computer and still the same issue. So I guess we can rule out the mouse.
The monitor is a flat screen and is probably less than two years old. Maybe I'll try swapping it out with my older monitor and see if that helps. Was trying to avoid that.. crawling around under desks an all that... ya know!

As for the black screen.... still seems to be fixed....cross your fingers on that! THANKS Muhammad, must have been something with the screen saver. Now... that its is on "none" for screen saver, is that bad 'cuz now I don't have a screen saver to come on! Don't really like that!
I am running some updates on my computer.... I will need to restart... I'll update you soon!
Oh BTW my computer is a Dell Ispiron Window 7. See info in one of my earlier replies. THANKS!!!!

Ok, I'm back... I did my updates. There actually was one for the Microsoft mouse and keyboard. After I restarted my computer, I typed a email or two and it was doing fine.... then I came back to this site and as I'm typing... it's back to it's bad self! Maybe not as bad, but still clicking off the page. I'm clueless!
If anyone has any other ideas, I'm open for suggestions.

What browser are you using to view this site? Does the problem of it clicking off the page occur regardless of which browser or program you are using? One suggestion I have read is to go to control panel, then mouse then pointer options, and untick (remove the check mark beside) hide pointer when typing, and then click on apply.

Sorry to bother you, guys, but I'm having the same issue as Rosie.
Screen goes black while playing (I'm actively using the mouse, and screen saver is set to none, so it can't be related to screen saving). Here's my PC config:
- ASUS P87 Motherboard
- Intel I5 2500 @ 3300 processor
- NVidia GeForce GTX560 video card (latest drivers)
- 8192 MB RAM @ 1333 MHz
- Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit
- Benq LED monitor
I'm afraid there's a hardware problem, since I reinstalled Windows recently.
To be honest, before I reinstalled Windows, I used to have a different issue: Windows was loading up to the Microsoft flag logo, when the monitor was going "no signal", with the status led flashing, as it does when it's shut down. In the meanwhile, the hard disk was still running. After resetting, the same happened, in a continuous loop. At times, I was able to make it start (either by luck in normal mode or in Safe Mode), but after a while it would go dark and the whole cycle restarted. Now, with the fresh install, it only goes blank for a couple of seconds and sometimes it just exist to desktop with no warning. Then the game either disappears (as if closed), or it crashes (Windows is searching for a solution), or, I the least worst case scenarios, it only minimizes to the taskbar.
Any ideas?

I came onto this site looking for the answer to a similar but somewhat different problem on my dad's computer. So, I can't help you, Rosie. As for LeDuddu, which game you are playing would be helpful. If this only happens while you are playing a game, it might be the game. Is it the one game, or every game, or does it happen when you are or are not playing? Your computer looks rather nice, so I don't think that it is because your computer can't handle it, but it is still a possibility. Try playing the game on lower performance settings. Your previous issue sounds like a problem with the drivers. But if you are no longer having this problem, the corrupted drivers have been replaced along with your OS.

Same here. I have a MSI Nvidia GT640 running on a Lenovo K410.

I have used the NVidia software to load a ton of updates over the past year or so. No luck, randomly goes black (five to six times an hour), all sound stops on my flat screen tv that I use as a monitor. I have also tried an LG computer monitor with the same result.

I have uninstalled device and all software, then used the newest driver. Uninstalled device and driver, then used the generic driver.

Pair that with a schizophrenic Cisco E4200 that regularly drops my connection every 10 minutes (apparently that mystery has yet to be solved either), well I'm at the point of taking a hammer to both.

Sorry to ask for help here but the NVidia forum has been less than useless.

Thank you for any suggestions in advance.

Cheers
