Are these transfer speeds "normal"?

I ask because it seemed slow to me. So I tested my two drives. Let me know if more information is needed. Thanks.

This is for a Sata II Samsung HDD.

Hello,
Depends on the model of the Samsung - speed, size etc.

Here is the link to Tom's Hardware charting of All HDD's 2012, that has the HDD sequential and random read/write and access time stats

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/hdd-charts-2012/benchmarks,134.html

Pick you Manufacturer, Model Number & speed. You have to go to a different chart for the seq reads and writes, random reads, etc. But the basic data is there to compare and evaluate.
Might also run the Benchmark and Random Access tests from HD Tune (free version) to compare results.

As for the esata raid5 that all depends on what the type of esata and the type raid chip in the box. Could be you have connected your raid box to a sata2 esata port which would drop the maximum speed to about 250MB/s. Or you could have a sata1 or 2 raid chip in the box. From your benchmark I would guess something in the chain is sata2 forcing the whole thing to drop to sata2 speeds.

Thanks. I have a NexStar 4xHR, which is SATA III. I have it connected to SATA III on the MOBO, but I guess I should double check. The only thing I don't have is a certified eSATA III cable. It is a SATA II cable but I figured it would be fine...since they seem to usually be.

Thanks
