Are these speeds normal for a Samsung 840 250gb?

I just got a new Samsung 840 250gb SSD and I am kinda confused at these speeds.

I have it plugged into a SATA III / 6gbs port running ACHI mode.

It has nothing but the OS on it.

I don't know but the speeds seem kinda slow to me. If anyone can provide some information on why or any advice would help.

Solution
Those speeds do look low, especially the write speeds. Did you use the Samsung Magician software that came with it? It should look for bottlenecks and show you the correct settings. What OS are you using?

No I haven't touched the Magician software but I will now, and I am on Windows 8

So I downloaded magician, Set max performance and restarted my PC.

Reads are now 535mbs,
writes are now 235mbs
Random Read 46108 IOPS
Random Write 43518 IOPS

These are from using Magician Benchmark.

So Seems like speeds are normal now.

Not a AMD user, but looks like the driver is correct for AMD chipset - "storahci"
Just a comment, Most benchmarks are performed on an Intel platform using the latest Intel drive which is better optimized for SSDs.
BUT then benchmarks are not that valuable, yes they will show a difference between various SSD, But those difference normally DO NOT translate into a noticeable difference in real life day-2-day usage, by humans, not sure about off planet - LOL
ENJOY.
