HD 7950, good card but driver problems?

Hey guys,

I recently bought a Sapphire 7850 Vapor-X OC with a boost and stuff.
Theoretically it should be a pretty much high end card, and practically, it feels like it is. I runned Crysis 3 on stable fps with Vsync on the highest settings, no problem!

But when I try to play my good old moba, league of legends. I noticed some small frame drops (it feels like it, but it doesn't). It's only when I move the camera around. When I turn settings to low, nothing changes. When I change my Vsync off and go for benchmark settings instead of stable, I run easily 300fps sometimes. The gameplay feels alot smoother overall but it causes screentearing. That's why I want my good old Vsync back, but that causes other conflicts.

I have the feelings that it has to do with the drivers, cause I am not the only one experiencing this problem. It might be a small problem cause the game is still playable, but it's just annoying.

Anyone knows a possible solution to this?

I have a 7950 and love it as well. Use the latest beta drivers 13.6. I believe 13.5 beta and later fixed the micro-stutter problems which is maybe what you're encountering. If not, try a fresh install of the drivers.. also, make sure you don't have any other heavy programs running in the background.

On somewhat of a side note, do you have an SSD or HD?

Not that I know haha !

Hm, I deleted my GTX drivers indeed ;)

Only a quite slow HDD. No SSD though. I use the drivers 13.4 atm, gotta try it in 13.5 ;D

Haha yeah you never said that!!! If you have nvidia drivers on it then that is definitely the issue. You have to really clean that driver out and uninstall all traces of nvidia geforce drivers. Once that is clean, then install the 13.6 beta AMD driver.

Well, I deleted everything from my Geforce. Not 100% sure but I think so? I don't know how I can trace from what I've missed? I even deleted the .Nvidia folders (root things)

And do you really prefer the latest beta drivers? Some prefer it, some not.

There are some cleaner programs, i.e. ccleaner and you can scan your registry entries for old traces of nvidia or geforce files. As for the beta, I really like 13.6 a lot: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/amdcatalyst13-6WINBetaDriver.aspx

Try the 13.6 beta and see if that fixes it.

Will try it tomorrow, but from what I know is that my gpu temp is around 40-50 degrees celcius (fan on low) and maybe even lower if I give my gpu fans 100% pwoer. My frametime is pretty weird tho, its more like 250-300, but sometimes also 150-200 or even 150-250. Never under the 150fps tho.

Not sure what these programs will give me since I'm quite new to AMD. :p

Will try tomorrow mate! Oh and I'll install Ccleaners also!

about league of legends, the system in my sig runs it benchmark 100-300 fps, but when i put vsync on it decreases the clockrates of my gpu ( usually to 300/501 ) disable the vsync in LoL and set the FPS limit to 80, it works

Hey I tried it, it decreases but it's still not optimal! ;)
Vsync off and on benchmark feels better to me. I hope there comes a fix with this, really. It's quite annoying feeling that your framerate caps to 30 while playing on 250-300. Not so smooth optimized gameplay :c

I have Sapphire HD 7950 oc and I tried to play LOL with vsync on everything is perfect running at 60fps ,, for the old driver problems I have my windows CD so I re-install windows when switching between Nvidia and AMD cards if you can do so its your best option

Do you stutter when moving your mouse to the corner to look around the whole map?
