No need to bother with LGA1150 at this price range. Just grab for yourself a LGA2011 system. If your screen resolution is 1920*1080 or smaller, then consider getting a GTX770 instead to save money.

Thanks for replying, in terms of performance for, recording and rendering, which one would be better? I know Sony Vegas supports hyper threading so the 3930k will perform a mile better in a benchmark.

What I am trying to get to really is how much gaming performance will I lose over using the i7 3930k instead of the i7 4770k?

Many thanks,

Meng

3930k has much higher performance in those task due to additional cores. As for gaming, you won't lose any, if not getting more, especially in new titles like Crysis3.

Hi, thanks for replying.

I drafted a build with the 3930k instead below, basically an expansion from your suggested build. Is there anything that you think is bad or needs replacing? I am a little out of budget with the below build but don't mind getting parts like the SSD at a later stage.

Intel Core i7-3930K C2 Stepping (SR0KY) 3.20GHz (Sandy Bridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor - Retail - £ 379.99
GIGABYTE GA-X79-UP4 Intel X79 (Socket 2011) ATX Motherboard - £ 158.19
EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3078MB GDDR5 Graphics Card - £ 457.49
2x 8GB (2x4GB) G.SKILL RipjawsX 2133MHz CL11 DDR3 Dual/Quad Channel Kit [F3-17000CL11D-8GBXL] - £ 109.98 (Total)
850W XFX Pro Black Edition 80PLUS Gold Modular Power Supply [P1-850B-BEFX] - £ 106.77
128GB Samsung 840 Pro Series 2.5" SATA 6GB/s (SATA-III) Solid State Drive - £ 90.21
256GB Samsung 840 Pro Series 2.5" SATA 6GB/s (SATA-III) Solid State Drive - £ 148.99
NZXT Switch 810 White Full Tower Window Gaming Case - £ 116.66
LiteOn 24x Internal SATA DVD RW Drive [IHAS124-04] - £ 10.95
XSPC RayStorm D5 RX360 WaterCooling Kit - £ 299.99
Total - £ 2,212.36

Thanks,

Meng

Seems good, but on storage part, one 840 pro is enough. You couldn spend the rest on a HDD with huge capacity, since recording/rendering will need a lot of space from your storage devices.
