Question on using an existing hard drive with a new (different) mobo.

So, with the help of this forum, I was able to build my daughter a sorta new computer. My friend gave me his old HP Windows Vista PC since his mobo died. I was hoping to use the same hard drive in the new build with an AS Rock N68C-GS FX mobo and AMD Phenom II 965 Black CPU. I used the hard drive, DVD drive, NVIDIA graphics card and 300w PSU from the old PC and put it in a Rosewill Challenger case. I have everything installed and wired. It POSTed, but I am not getting a signal to the monitor. I am assuming the hard drive is reading the old mobo, since the new mobo came with the driver CD. What are my solutions.
BTW, so glad these forims are around, so Forum...don't fail me now!

N68C-GS FX mobo and AMD Phenom II 965 Black CPU - This does not appear to be a supported combination.
The 965 BE is available either with a (TDP) Thermal Design Power of 125 watts or 140 watts. The motherboard CPU Support List does not list support for ANY CPU with a TDP over 95 watts.

The ideal solution would be a fresh install.

1. It won't be trying to use the old mobo and video drivers
2. What junk was installed on it before it died? Probably all the old bloatware from HP.

Start fresh and you can control what goes on it.

Calvin7, thanks for that info, I didn't catch that. I guess I can use the old Phenom X4 9750. I hope that would work (it is an OEM part from an HP Elite m9400f). I will most likely use the 965 with a new compatible board for a future build. Unless, anyone has other options.
