Here's my build -- http://pcpartpicker.com/user/h3arts/saved/1HXO
--
I would like to drop the price about $100 dollars or so. I was thinking the Power Supply? I'm planning on heavy editing and heavy gaming along with programs like after effects. I'll also be game recording.
Do I need to buy thermal paste?
Are all of my components compatible?
Do I need to buy any cables?

How many monitors do you plan to use? If you only use one, that GPU is overkill, and you should consider a 7870 XT or the new nvidia 770 instead.
You shouldn't need any extra cables, but you might need thermal paste... Or drop the EVO if you don't overclock, and just use the stock cooler, which comes with thermal paste.
And yes, it looks like a solid build.

Also, I'll be recording while running maxed settings. Do you really think it's too much? I thought you weren't supposed to cheap out with the graphics card.

How about switching to AMD instead? FX8350 will definetly gets you more power in rendering software that support multi-core CPUs. Also picked a better PSU at lower price so that you could get another 7970 for a CF setup later.

For your 3 questions : No, yes, no.

Oh man..... I'm trying to buy the parts and go to bed and you throw this at me
How is it so much better if it's almost half the price? I don't know what a CF setup is. Also, thanks for quickly answering my other questions.

Using a second monitor that you aren't going to game on puts practically no stress on the GPU. A 770 is a good pick, and faster than the 7970 anyways.
You can get a 128GB drive instead of a 250 - it will still hold windows and all your apps just FINE. (remember that most games don't get any benefit from being on an SSD.) You only need a 650w power supply.
The Hyper 212 EVO comes with decent thermal paste, everything is compatible, and your motherboard will come with at least two cables even if your drives don't.

What's the 770 exactly? (noob) I'll drop down the 128GB then and drop the watt for the power supply..

CF means CrossfireX. 2/3 or even 4 AMD GPU running togethr to bring greater graphic performance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD_CrossFireX
If you want to keep Intel theme and drop the price for about 100$, I suggest this fixed build list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/13ap4

Better SSD and PSU. Slightly more noisy VGA.

I wouldn't recommend an XFX card. Their coolers are less than excellent, and I've heard poor things about their reliability. You can balance out the hit from getting a Sapphire 7970 (only $10) by dropping the PSU to a XFX Core edition 550w, as I've done here: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/13asD

Pardon me, but I've not been of the impression that SeaSonics were meaningfully better than XFXs, given that SeaSonic makes all of XFX's PSUs.

2nd best PSU tier from XFX ( core pro ) is only on par with Seasonic's weakest series ( S12II ).

Well, it's pretty much at that now. I think my graphics card should be sufficient for gaming and it seems like everything else should allow me to edit with ease unless, I'm wrong? My parts all go together according to you all. So, I'll wait a few mins to see what everyone else has to say then, I guess I'll order everything and go to bed.

Your build should make mince of gaming and editing alike. Though the 7970 isn't the top dog any more, it can still max anything short of Crysis 3, and should serve you in good stead.

I'm up for getting a better card so long as it's at least $50ish below $1500 in the end build which is what it's at currently so it couldn't really go up in price.

The 770 is better, as is the 7970 GHz edition (the 770 is marginally ahead (1-4%) of the GHz Edition), while the 780 is drastically more powerful, but also extremely expensive. If you can invest $20-40 more dollars, a Sapphire Vapor-X 7970 GHz Edition or a Gigabyte Windforce x3 770 would both be good choices.
Edit: It is worthy of note that none of these (save the ludicrously expensive 780) is a massive improvement over the 7970 you have there. You'd get some performance gains, but not massive ones.

Not sure who that would have been. The 7970 GE works fine with 550w. The 770 should too, actually, though 600w is recommended.

I beg your pardon? Is there a reason that you wish to keep the G.Skill RAM and larger PSU? As an addendum, if you want a larger PSU, the XFX Core Edition 750w is, for some damnable reason, less costly than the 650w. You might also consider the previously-suggested SeaSonic S12II 620w.
That said, the 550w should be more than enough.

Also, yes. Those are the only retailers which stock those parts at those prices (unless there are others listed on PC Part Picker), so unless you live near a computer parts vendor which price matches, you're only going to lose money by buying elsewhere.

Not sure who that would have been. The 7970 GE works fine with 550w. The 770 should too, actually, though 600w is recommended.
I guess I'll just stick with it then ~ -- http://pcpartpicker.com/user/h3arts/saved/1HYO
No reason
fix it? Also, read my previous edit??Here: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/13aHQ
Also, yes. Those are the only retailers which stock those parts at those prices (unless there are others listed on PC Part Picker), so unless you live near a computer parts vendor which price matches, you're only going to lose money by buying elsewhere.
I just noticed it was just your old post.. sorry. I guess I'm buying now then. Unless you have anything else? If not............................... then..... THANK YOU!!
Only thing you might wish to be aware of is that one person claimed that this RAM didn't fit under his heat sink in the Amazon reviews. Two others said that they had no issues, so he may have simply been an idiot, but I can't personally attest to the dimensions of this RAM (it looks low profile, but I'm bad at judging that by sight). If that concerns you, you might want to get this RAM instead: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-memory-cml16gx3m4a...
That said, it is more than likely that it is, in fact, short enough to fit under the 212 Evo and the person in question was simply a fool.
Edit: Also, it's been my pleasure. I quite enjoy designing builds, to the point that I would likely go into withdrawal if I left the site for a protracted period. Helping folks out is a great bonus.

Get a gtx 770 it's nearly the same price as 7970 GHz and it's faster and quieter http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Exactly as it sounds. The 770 is slightly faster than the 7970 GE. That said, I'd not heard that ASUS's cooler was significantly quieter than Sapphire's, though Vapor-X has a known issue with coil whine which occurs in some cards.
Edit: Worthy of note, the major difference between them is the game bundle offered with the 7970. If you're not interested in the games, that 770 or the Gigabyte equivalent is a better option than the 7970 GE.

So I should go with this other one then?

I'm going with the GTX770 then? I don't care about whatever game it is.Games, technically. Specifically, Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon (but not standard Far Cry), Crysis 3, and Bioshock Infinite. If you have no interest in those (which I would completely understand - I'm sure as heck not interested in them), the 770 is a better option for sure, given the prices.

I'm afraid that those links all lead to empty shopping carts. Could you post the individual store pages?
