Is my computer overheating?

Hi Good Day,

My computer as of lately just shuts down randomly on me.
I noticed it started happening when I am playing some newly released games. IE Metro Last Light and Crysis 3.

There is no exact time that the computer will automatically shut down whenever I am playing. I just seems to shut down when it wants to.

Specs of my PC:
Motherboard: Asrock N68c-GC FX
Processor: AMD FX-8150 Black Edition
Memory: 4g DDR3
Video Card: AMD Radeon 7750 1g ddr5

None of those parts are overclocked**
All of them are stock parts including the fan for the processor**
I think I got good airflow on my tower as well, I got 2 fans blowing out on the top, 1 fan blowing out at the back, 1 fan blowing out at the bottom, and 2 fans blowing in at the side** All the fans are 120mm

So I tested the system. God HWMonitor.
on idle, the temps that i got are::
**All are in Celsius

Processor : ranging from 34-37 degrees
Video Card: 42 - 43 degrees

then I did a torture test using Prime95:
Processor reached 48 degrees and boom, shut down.

Restarted the computer, did the stress test again and after reaching 47 degrees, the computer shut itself down.

So I am thinking that the computer cant handle the temps.

What can you suggest to make this computer of mine stable?

Should I replace the Motherboard? Maybe the mobo is handling the temps properly?

Or should i go out and buy a good cooling system for my processor?

Or any other suggestions?

Bad ram more likely than cpu temp but then again, AMD temp read outs are not accurate. I suggest you do a memtest86 run and see if there is any problem with your ram.

Which psu do you have? it may be possible that it is having trouble at peak system power draw.

Done with the memtest86
results are:

Walltime - 3:44:30
Cached : 4079M
RsvdMem : 192K
MemMap: e020
Cache: on
ECC: off
Test: Std
Pass: 1
Errors: 0
ECC Errs: ---

****Pass complete, no errors, press Esc to exit*******

HDD seems okay, done thesystem under tools tab on the drive's properties.
Heat sink seems to be clamped on pretty tight as well..

I am totally lost now.
could it be possible the mobo is too low end?

not likely. Huntkey aren't the best in business though they do often serve the purpose but this could very well be a voltage issue too. One way to test the theory(voltage issue) is obviously to replace the psu and see if the issue can be replicated. I know getting hold of a quality psu just to test out the system seems impractical but that is the route i'd take.

For starters, can you use cpu z and see what is the voltage range your are operating in and what is the voltage around the temp marks your system seems to crash around.

Voltages seems to be constant:
CPU VCORE stays at 1.336V with min @ 1.320V and max @ 1.336V
this is during the torture test while the temps are going up.

This just happens on the newest games though, tried playing old games lke mass effect 3 or AC series and i gots no problem with them.

that voltage range is consistent with 8350. I am almost sure that this has all got to do with RAM. Say almost cause the mobo could be a problem as you said earlier. How do the RAM voltages look in BIOS? which ram are you using?

How its even running a amd 8150 is anyones guess the board doesnt support 125w chips its max is 95w.

flash the bios and get the fx 6300 its much more stable

also hunter key psu is probly a low end power supply i would replace it with a more suitable psu like a cx 600w for future upgrading benefits also when getting the fx 6300 replace the pre applied tim on the cpu with mx4 paste instead its much better and will keep your processor cool until you can afford a better cooler. by coolermaster or zalman.

mistaken the 8150 for the 8120 which had 2 version of the 95w/125w

Ok so basically the mobo is not compatible with the processor.
Any suggestions on the cheapest mobo I can get which will be compatible to this 8150? Or will it be cheaper to get the fx 6300 in replacement to the 8150?

Thanks a lot guys for the replies.

Probably 50to100$.. I dont need the high end mobo. I just need it to be at least to be compatible with the 8150.

i agree the 970 series is better but stay away from the asrock 970 i had 2 doa boards 1 posted 1 did not also

you cant use 1600mhz ram in all the slots without occing the board as it states in the manual only 1 and 3 support 1600mhz

and that depends on if you are like me and dont want it sucking up a huge ass ammount of power bulldozer suffered this issue as does all the 8 cores plus the fx 6300 uses alot less energy yet performance is the same in gaming
