About to start my first build today and need some advice regarding what set ups to use and what ports to use with regards to my hard drives and OS.

My motherboard
ASUS P8Z77-V Premium
http://images.anandtech.com/doci/6144/ASUS%20P8Z77-V%20Premium%20Top.png

1 x 128GB SSD OCZ Vector

1 x 2TB Barracuda

This board has many ports and also have a built in 32GB SSD

These are my questions I need answered please:-

What is the best set up for me to use, I do not plan on buying any more SSD's anytime soon.

1. Is the on board SSD on the mobo only for caching? Or can it be used to load the OS onto? Or Should I just load the OS onto the 128GB SSD I have bought.

2. This board has many sata ports and options, so what is my best set up with regards to the 2 hard drives I have. What ports should I plug these into (Im still not certain if the on board SSD only uses a certain port for the caching despite watching a few videos and reading about the board.

Sorry if silly question, but not very computer hardware savvy

But from my understanding, I am best to just plug both drives into the regular 6gbps slots?

Solution
Hi Aitchy,

Right, personally I would load your OS onto the 128GB SSD. The onboard 32GB SSD is really for smart caching if you have an SSD already. Also most people will recommend at least 60GB for an OS drive.

Regarding which ports to use for your SSD and HDD, you want to use the "Intel" SATA 6Gb ports, that's the 2x Grey SATA ports on your board.

Hope this helps =)
