worth the extra money as compared to what?
if you are starting a new build its better to start with the most current generation for cpu and motherboard (if you are debating haswell vs ivy bridge intel wise), otherwise the 4670k is better than something like amds 8350 for gaming, but if your on a strict budget is it really the a $100 or so better (the 75 for the cpu and the haswell motherboards are more expensive) than no you can spend it elsewhere.
