GPU for Multi-Monitor Setup

Hello Tom's Hardware!

I am planning on puchasing two or three 22" 1080p monitors for my current rig (in signature) and will be upgrading my GPU in the process. I am not particularly interested in 3-sceen gaming, more in the multi-tasking capabilities, i.e. Game, Skype, FireFox

I am on a budget of £400 for the GPU and hence am really looking at the GTX 770 or the HD7970 GHz Edition.

Note:
- I MIGHT CrossFire/SLI in the future, huge emphasis on the might there.
- Isn't 3GB more 'future-proof' than 2GB?
- Not massively interested in the 7970 game bundle.

What is my best bet?

What about for two monitors? I may not be able to afford the third just yet, then it would just be two DVI > DVI

I don't know if it is that important, but surely the extra gig of RAM will make s hige difference, especially a year down the line? (and by the AMD may have fixed the CrpssFire isssues)

Considering the amount of posts and threads you've made already about your problems with a 7970 I can't believe you would be making yet another thread asking whether you should get one or not.

If you bump this thread though I will close it and may even ban you so bear that in mind when you ignore the edit function.

Dude!
That has been and gone, we all came to the conclusion that the card was faulty I have sent it back, got mt refund and am now deciding whether to get a new 7970 or go to the 770! What is wrong with that????

The 7970 is better if you plan on overclocking.

Thanks for your input!

Just to clear things up:
1) Does any number of multiple monitors require the use of a Display-Port, or can I use the two DVI and HDMI connections first?
2) Since the GTX 770 is technically a little faster than the 7970 GE, what exactly is that extra RAM doing/for?
3) Is it worth waiting for the GTX 770 4GB?
