I have recently sent my laptop (lenovo ideapad y560) for diagnosis.
I had my computer reformatted and used a fresh windows install (windows 7).
So then i continue to install the drivers for my graphic card (ati Raedon HD 5370)

confused on which driver i should install, I downloaded the automatic driver detection tool from the AMD site.
It installs the amd catalyst instead of the ati catalyst which I was quite used too.
After it was installed a black screen with NOTHING on it remains after the black 'windows is loading screen'.
I tried to single out the cause of it and discovered that it was the AMD display driver option that was preventing it from booting successfully.

Also as a side note Icompletely removed any trace of the driver and reinstalled it without the display driver option, now in the device manager under the display adapter section my graphic card was listed as just Raedon 5000 series.
though after clicking on update driver in the driver tab it is correctly listed as ATI Mobility RAedon HD 5730, however i got a code 19 error.

Beyond this point I have absolutely no idea what to do and require help, I just hope that my graphic card is not physically damaged.

after looking through the drivers&download page i found the drivers
,however there were alot of confusing options
As i have an ATI I went with the ATI option but it is for windows XP (i assume it is not platform dependent )
this is the option displayed
ATI Catalyst Display Driver for Microsoft Windows XP - IdeaPad Y460, Y560

There was also an AMD option
AMD Graphics Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - IdeaPad Y460, Y560 guess that won't work

So after installing ATI catalyst, windows successfully booted without any problems, I clicked on the Catalyst Control Center from the rightclick menu.
However I get an error saying MSVCR110_CLR0400.dd is missing, try reisntalling and all that.
So i proceed to download the dll file and placed it in the SysWOW64 folder yet I still get the same error.

Ah, the automatic detection tool, that was the first thing i used to get the drivers.
However as i stated in the first post, I get a black blank screen of nothing after the 'windows is loading screen'.

With that aside I downloaded the ATI display driver from the lenovo site and i got windows to boot successfully, however i an error (refer to my above post) I believe that one dll file is pushing me 1 step away from rending my graphic card operational).

I will download the AMD option just in case (above post again)

Oh and FYI my OS is Win 7 64bit.

Oh further to your post, the drivers are operating system dependent. Some drivers designed for XP will not work on Windows 7! That is why you will get the errors related to specific files as they are not compatible.

Again, make sure you know if you are running a 32bit system or a 64bit system. With some drivers, it is sometimes the same for both operating systems but it is important that you submit the exact operating system or it could effect your results.

Alright... seems like i will have to go with the AMD option from the lenovo site first, i tried getting the proper drivers from the amd site but as i said Blank.

i downloaded and installed the beta driver from the link you posted, the problem hasen't change, it goes black after the black starting windows screen. The starting windows screen would take longer to load than when I i don't have the driver installed

EDIT:- I tried opening the AMD catalyst control Center in safe mode and I encountered the same MSVCR110_CLR0400.ddl is missing error

tried it and once again the same black screen problem ensues. :/

EDIT:- Ironically it is the same exact driver that someone kept for me in the computer after I performed a fresh windows install

That seems to do the trick, apparently there are some problems with the power options/energy management, what ever. The computer would open and work fine (with the driver you gave me) if I open it running solely on the battery and not connected by the power cord. Everything seems normal
Graphically utilized softwares would run normally, the screen runs at native resolution etc.
However as soon as I plug in the power cord it would freeze (or perhaps refresh at less than 1Hz if that makes sense)

After looking at the instructions in that forum:-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"
i had to adjust the energy settings in windows. the mininmal performance is set to 100 percent for running with cable. if you set it to 5% like running on battery, it isnt crashing. perhaps this could be a solution to other having the black screen after windows logo.

here's what to do:
boot in safe mode and adjust your energy settings for running with ac adapter. set the minimal performance to 5%"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
so I got kinda confused here i assume he is talking about the processor power management settings
So running normally i set the minimum processor state to 5% for 'Plugged in' (All inside the high performance preset which i assume will be loaded at startup)I restarted with the powercord on, still got a black screen.
So off to safemode,
"adjust your energy settings for running with ac adapter. set the minimal performance to 5%"
from what I can interpret, it seems like there's a specific option inside the minimum processor state ( on battery and plugged in)
however there is only one option (percentage) I think it's global for both.
It is set to 5%.

I am just one step away....
I'll try to find more information regarding this issue if I can.
Thank you for the link btw.

Hey Mitch!

Apologies for a belated response, but been a bit ill. I had a look at my GF's lappie and saw the options which you are referring too. So, from what I can make out it looks as though both of those settings need to be 5%.

When you expand the tree for "Minimum Processor State" it should have both "battery" and "plugged in". Both of these should be changeable.

Now given the options that you describe, I don't think your version of Windows knows that you are on a laptop/ideapad otherwise it should display this option.

On my desktop I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64bit and has the same option as you, whereas my girlfriend's laptop is running Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit and has both options for battery and plug.

Now, it has been a while since I reinstalled Windows 7, but during the setup does it ask you if what kind of system you are using ie. laptop desktop? I'm thinking that you either might need to reinstall Windows 7 or unless you know of a registry hack which can make Windows 7 recognise that you are on a laptop.

I came across something else just now. Have you checked device manager in Windows 7 to see if the ACPI driver is installed?

If it isn't, I reckon that could be half of your problem right there!

Have ideapad y560 and ati mobility radeon 5730 and same problem (blank screen when booting just after windows logo). System works only in safe mode or whenever i disable grahpic card / uninstall drivers for it.

Funny thing is that everything seems to be working on linux (ubuntu ;P).

Have you been able to fix this?

Ok I seem to have found the fix

My Ideapad y560d had this problem and it only booted up properly when it was running on battery and not plugged in. I got it running by changing the "minimum processor state" to 5%.

To get there: power options --> change plan settings --> change advanced power settings --> processor power management --> minimum processor state.

Change the "plugged in" minimum to 5%, which should be the same as the "on battery" minimum.

After this, I downloaded AMD's driver autodetect software and installed the driver for my graphics card.

***NOTE*** After I did this and rebooted my computer showed that my displayed driver was titled "AMD Radeon HD 6570M/5700 Series" and NOT "ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730" as it was showing before.

Everything is working fine after the reboot.

I installed the autodetect from this website : http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/auto-detect-tool

After that I have turned my "plugged in" minimum back up to 100% and there are no problems so far.

I think once you get your computer to recognize the display driver as "AMD Radeon HD 6570M/5700 Series," you should be fine with turning the minimum processor state back up to 100%

Hope this helps. Post any questions and I will try to respond.
