I've been at crossroads lately.

Could someone please recommend me the best possible cpu for my needs, that also factors in price?

I will be getting a separate gpu,
my computer will be used for gaming and HD video editing on Sony Vegas - rendering time isnt so much of an issue, as long as the video preview moves along smoothly.

Whats more important, core amount? ghz? Could you please recommend a cpu for me?

Budget: +-250 for mobo and cpu

I agree with the person above me your best bet would be FX8320 or 8350. But the 50 would be more expensive so you will need cheaper and weaker motherboard. I think get a solid asus board and the FX8320 chip would be indeed ur best shot. I support the answer above.

i5 is a very solid chip. The theory behind being that i5 should be faster in single threaded applications. However the AMD FX8320 chip overclocks remarkably well and is faster overall. So if you overclock it it will be similar speed. Multitasking with the FX is a breeze as well and new CPU's that are coming out are also AM3+ so u have upgrade path for the future. The thing with gaming though is that you will not notice the FPS loss the intel claims to have. Running solid 1920x1080 resolution on your games choose whatever CPU u want in most games u won't see difference. Only CPU intesive games like WoW Shogun 2 etc. But the thing is the difference is like 100FPS BUT amd pulls off like 200 and than intel pulls of 300. U can only notice 120FPS EVER so u will never notice that fps difference in actual use. Windows 8 makes the FXes faster. I have FX8150 and i am proud as hell of it pulls off same fps in every new games everybody else gets. I will defenetly upgrade to FX8350 my self as soon as possible.

My personal recommendation is stick with AMD. But if u want to believe that single threaded is better and u want those +1 fps in SOME games than you can go with intel it's all in all soild chip.
