Good CRT monitor for pc gaming?

Recently I hooked up an old CRT tv I had in my garage, and hooked up an xbox 360 to it. I totally wasn't prepared for the most crisp contrast I ever witnessed. Even though everything was at 480p, the colors were outstanding, and the contrast looked so realistic that it felt like I was really there in outdoor areas. Haha enough about that. I can't hook my computer up to this tv because there is no input for vga or anything. I was just wondering if anyone knew a good CRT monitor with fantastic contrast and picture that would go great even for new PC games. Can anyone help me out with some links? Thanks, and long live CRT :D

I don't think you will find those except for maybe eBay, possibly Amazon. You probably could find one at a Goodwill or even yard sales. Yes, the contrast and color were great on the old CRTs. That's why I have a plasma TV instead of an LCD. The contrast and colors were so much better. Although LCDs are getting a lot better.
I just wish there wasn't the issue with burn-in with plasmas (but that has also gotten better with technology) so that it was ok to use them with video games and/or computers.

Hmm, I'm going to look that up. Thanks. :)

I can't stand to look at plasmas, all grainy and speckly in the greys and certain colour shades, that puts me off more than anything. A good quality LCD is better than CRT or Plasma imo, has the least amount of drawbacks.

What drawbacks does a quality CRT have other than size? Incredible contrast ratios and black depth, stunning colour quality/accuracy (graphics professionals still use them to calibrate colours on TFTs), perfect response time, true multiple resolutions... while TFT offers a slim profile and more definition. And minor advantages most people wouldn't care that much about, like energy efficiency.

Gets blurry at high resolutions and flicker.

NEC MultiSync FP2141SB <----I had one of those for a long time and it is one of the best CRT monitors ever made, if you can find one. That's the thing about good CRTs, they will be tough to find.

Only if you don't buy quality. My EX710F did 1600x1200 at 75Hz and 1280x1024 at 85Hz. As for definition, I did already state that TFTs are better in that regard.

Good point about quality though - don't assume that any CRT will be an improvement. There were some absolutely terrible CRTs, and I'm not just talking about really old 80s or early 90s models. There were some cheap nasty models (I'm thinking especially of some from Viewsonic) in the later CRT years too.

Kind of like with TN TFT - you can't assume just because it's TN that it will be fast response. You really want models described as 'graphics professional line' and things like that. Of course it's often just marketing crap, but you really do want the higher end models if you can get them.

Oh yeah tell me about it. I had some crappy CRT monitor before, but I also had a very good one. About the guy who was complaining about blurry high resolutions, I don't use very high resolution even if I have the option. Low resolution actually looks better on a good CRT than an LCD.

That's what I meant about true multiple resolutions - a TFT only has one true resolution (the native res). That's why lower resolutions look really crap on TFTs, because they're emulated by clustering pixels together. I would have stuck with CRT if it wasn't for the aspect ratio. With TV being 16:9 and films being 2.35:1 (or wider), half of my (already small) 4:3 screen was black bars.

The most promising flat panel display technologies to replace TFT were FED (Field Emission Display) and SED (Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display), which are actually based on CRT tech. But AMOLED is cheaper in production costs (easier to convert existing factory production lines from TFT to AMOLED production) so AMOLED is what I'm holding out for. It's not a perfect replacement, but should be a big improvement over TFT.

There IS no response time xD

The image is just blasted at the screen!
