I am currently using asus p8 h67 MLE mobo. already have 2 internal hard disk in my cpu casing. not sure if I have the wire for another ssd which I intend to buy.

Also, if it is compatible, are there any software around that can port over my current OS state from my sata II hard disk to the new ssd?

Also, what's the difference between a samsung 840 pro and samsung 840 SSD series? If I were to use it just for gaming, would reading and writing speeds matter cuz their price differences seems to be quite significant.

You can clone the drive to the SSD, but I would suggest that you backup any non-system related files. You should try to trim it down so that your HDD's space can fit well within the SSD's storage capacity.

And the Samsung 840 Pro has faster speeds and uses MLC controller vs the TLC on the regular 840.

does ssd use the same sata cable as my sata II hdd? and they will come in the ssd package right?

Also, what are the differences between samsung brands and other brands like corsair?

Thank you all. I'm not sure if one of my question is addressed yet. For gaming, only reading is required, right? Does it use the writing capability of the ssd?

is it really worth the money to get the pro version of samsung instead?

thx for the recommendation. have been reading up reviews on plextor m5pro seems good.

Qns: after cloning my OS partition on the SSD successfully, do i need to manually switch it to be the primary boot drive from my mobo?

The ssd looks too small to fit in old cpu casing. I don't think it fits with the 3.5 brackets. Do I need to buy a new bracket? Or can I just let it rest above my existing hdd?

I left my ssd sitting on my other hard drives dangling. I have done the cloning.

But im confused if I can delete/format my previous OS partition. and now if my new OS drive is H:/ and my previous C:/ so which drive represents my desktop now?

Is the SSD the only drive in the system now? If not, try removing the other drive and leave the SSD as the only drive in the system and then try rebooting the computer. That may or may not help. Also try looking at other settings in the BIOS as there may be something you need to enable or change. Check the motherboard manual to see if there are any instructions for properly setting up an SSD.

nope I have my previous sata2 hdd still plugged in as well. But im pretty sure im booting from my ssd. the difference is significant. but can i delete my previous OS now?

Do you have data on the other drive you want to keep? If not, remove the drive first and make sure Windows boots properly. If Windows boots properly, then you could try reinstalling the drive and then format it. Only format the old drive if you don't have data on it you would like to keep. I would seriously consider the bracket I mentioned earlier to make sure the SSD is securely fastened in the case.

i pretty much backed up my things on the previous OS. so will my new desktop be from the ssd? do u mean physically remove the drive (by disconnecting sata cable?) and i see the windows logo on the SSD drive at "My computer", it means it's the OS drive, right?

Yes, I mean disconnect the data and power cables from the old drive. If the computer boots without any problems then you can reattach the cables and format the old the old drive since you have everything from it backed up. Yes, I do believe the drive with the Windows logo is your boot drive. I just checked mine and the boot drive (C:) has the Windows logo on it and none of the other drives do.
