Hey guys, I need some help/advice.
I have a laptop from a few years ago with Windows 7 installed, but I keep getting the Blue Screen of Death. I've tried virus scanning my computer with a lot of good software, but it still doesn't help, which leads me to my question. I was thinking about clearing my HDD of everything (including the OS), and installing Linux through the USB, using a normal flash drive. I know this might not fix the BSOD, but I wanted to give it a shot, since it would cost more to fix the computer than it's worth. So all in all, will I be able to install Linux (Ubuntu) through a USB flash-drive if my HDD is wiped clean?

With the distributions that I have used, you get the opportunity to wipe/use the entire drive, or use an unpartitioned space on the drive.

My preferred way to install is to download the ISO of choice, then use Universal USB Installer to make an installable USB drive. Then you just set your BIOS to boot from the USB drive first and off you go.
