So I ordered a screw-mounted fan in favor of the standard clip-retention system. Installed it tonight and it looked as though it was sitting about 1/8" too high. Sure enough, when I booted my system, within 30 seconds my CPU shot up to 185*

Know anything about installing screw mounted cpu heatsinks? The seating bracket on the back of the mobo looked like it was seated correctly, but I screwed the screws in as far as they would go and it didn't seem like it was seated the way it should be.

Anyone have a decent guide on how screw-mounted coolers *should* be installed?

Most New time screw heat sink errors is the back plate it put in upside down. The backplate is not flat but stamped it made to have the stamp pushed out. Also look that your using the right screws in the right spot. Also did you put a thin layer of thermal paste????

Well it didn't appear to come with anything more than just the cooler and the mounting bracket, and given the fact it already sits 1/8" or so above the CPU, wouldn't washers widen this gap even more?
