Hello,
I currently have a EVGA GTX 670 FTW non-signature edition. Therefore I do not have the nice coolers etc. I actually meant to buy the signature edition but clicked the wrong product in Amazon.. so not only did I not get the version that was cooler and quieter but it actually cost £40.00 more lol
When I use EVGA Precision, I can see on the OSD that it automatically clocks my card up to 1186mhz with typical temps of 75-76 degrees in most cases. This is creating a lot of fan noise and is making my chances of future SLI and further overclocking dim.
With this in mind, I am thinking of upgrading to the GTX 770, possibly the MSI or ASUS non-reference cards. I have looked at reviews showing the differences between the 670 and 770 and I have seen performance increases of 10-15% across the board.
I could sell my GTX 670 for around £200 (it has EVGA transferable warranty so this helps), and then put £160 towards the 770.
Do you think £160 is worth a 10-15% increase in performance? I have also seen the following benefits of the 770;
- Quieter
- Runs cooler so better overclock, especially with non-reference designs.
- GPU Boost 2.0
- 10-15% performance boost
- Better to SLI in the future
- Better to sell when the 800 series comes out, rather than trying to sell a 670.
I am thinking that the extra 6-10 frames I get in games from upgrading my just be enough to use a couple of higher settings (SSAO, Post Processing) and still have a constant 60fps with v-sync on. I could also play Skyrim with ENB with less problems.
In case anyone needs to know I am using a single 1080p monitor and have a i5-2500k.
Can someone help me decide? I was thinking about going for the 780 but paying out £350, after selling my GTX 670 for £200, for about a 30% performance increase over what I have now (670) seems unreasonable and I have other priorities in life to take care of.
Thank you
Beresford
