How do you overclock a non-k i5-2500? (safely)

Heard some places people saying it cannot be done, heard other places people saying it can be easily done.
I need to overclock it because it's becoming a bottleneck in many games. And I don't care if I have to turn off 2 cores, cause games don't use more than 2 cores except a handful which are far more GPU intensive anyway.

well like RobCrezz says only way is Base clock. though it will give you a modest 150Mhz. plus programs that OC from windows arent good/safe. but i dont think the SB i5 will be a bottleneck in games, i think your Gfx is.

how detailed? that CPU cant be overclocked by multipler and youll only get 225 Mhz max by Bclck if your lucky and that 225 Mhz is almost the same as nothing. again, i think your GPU might be the bottleneck as most of them are GPU intensive.

Do NOT overclock Sandy Bridge via BCLK. Use the unlocked multiplier, that's what it's for. Using BCLK overclocks everything including things not ever meant to be overclocked like your hard drive and PCI-E slots. You can easily damage components by going too high with the BCLK.

I'm asking about overclocking my CPU for a reason, I'm not some clueless idiot who doesn't know where his system bottlenecks are.

obviously you are a clueless idiot because your not supost to overclock a k'less 2500. Pull out your wallet and buy a k'ed version and overclock it, in the long run it will be cheaper. Your now OC'ing the sata ports and pci-e sockets so you have a good chance of killing your motherboard, and let not foget the cpu that is not ment to be overclocked (theres a reason intel did not make it a K cpu). The sata and pci-e ports are now OC'ed so lets see now you have potential damage to the gpu and harddrive. So instead of spending $200 on the right cpu your risking the whole system for a few mhz gain.
